I'm Such a Mess! π
Hello, Creatives! Is your workspace neat or messy? In this one, I'll show you my new creative studio, New book I finished made entirely with Procreate, my online class, and packaging illustration
Hi everyone! Itβs been a few weeks since the last publication! The last couple of weeks were extremely busy. I have been working non-stop on my online class; Iβm telling you guys a bit about that below. I also want to welcome all new newsletter subscribers!
This week I also released a new video showing you around my workspace in a new studio tour. I moved into this new creative studio at the beginning of 2021, and now that the spaces are almost finished, I can show you around.
Lastly, in this publication, Iβm sharing a new class that will teach you how to illustrate packaging. This is a topic that Iβve been asked a lot, so I think this class is great to cover all the basics of packaging illustration.

How Organized do You Think I Am?
This is the first studio tour I filmed in my new studio!
Having a comfortable space to work in is very important. I strongly believe that our surroundings can greatly impact our creativity, mindset, and overall well-being. This is why working on my studio space and making it mine took me quite a while. I moved to my new studio about ten months ago and only now have I prepared a short studio tour for you all.
In my latest video, you will see quite some plants, a few books, wall decoration, and some of my materials on a very gloomy, cold, and (unfortunately) dark Saturday in my Amsterdam-based studio. You will notice a huge difference if you saw my last studio tour from over two years ago. My current space is much bigger and brighter, which I love! I also actualized a lot of my working tools, got many more illustrated books, and am lucky to have not one but two (!) desks!
Iβm showing you how I organized my workspace, what things I like to surround myself with, and some office gadgets that I often use for work and when creating. Iβm mentioning some of my favorite tools and simple storage ideas. I like surrounding myself with beautiful objects and meaningful details, but I never put them above functionality. So when working on my space, I paid a lot of attention to making the space comfortable and practical, keeping in mind that this is where I spend most of my time.
If you are in need of some inspiration, renovating your own space, or simply looking for a change, I hope my video will inspire you and maybe even give you some new ideas or solutions. As always, Iβm linking all of my favorite things and tools below the video (nothingβs sponsored here), so you can find them easily online.
I would LOVE to see your creative workspace, and I wish there were a way we could do that, so maybe I should think of a hashtag we could all use to share some photos?
Let me know how you like my studio tour in the comments below the video; I hope to hear from you!:)
How Books Are Illustrated Entirely With Procreate
I still get asked daily if Procreate is a good professional tool.
Thereβs a new book coming to the sale in early November illustrated by me, and I couldnβt be happier to share it with you all in an upcoming YouTube video. Iβll be talking a bit about the process of illustrating it, sharing some behind-the-scenes and how I used Procreate to illustrate yet another book. Iβll be showing you some black & white sketches and final illustrations from the book, as thatβs what many of you often asks about. From a rough draft to a colorful digital illustration that finally gets printed in the book, thereβs a long way, and I wanted to show a tiny bit of that in the video as well.
If you want to look behind making a book in Procreate, below is the video I made a few months back from one of those books.
I also share some useful tips that you can find, talk about the process behind making an illustrated book, mention some brushes, and share some sneak peeks of the book.
The video is already filmed and ready for you, and it will be up on my channel the same day as the book release, so Iβll also leave a link to it in case youβd like to check it out; I think it turned out great!
My First Procreate Online Class
I have been working extremely hard to get it out soon!
As you probably know, I have been working intensely on my first online class for the last few months. Iβm reaching the end of finalizing the whole course, and I think β¦ youβre going to love it!
I included all the tips, information, and answers to questions I received from you. Itβs a really extensive & detailed course I poured my knowledge into, shared tricks that help me a lot in my work every single day, and talked a lot about art and illustration. Once the class is out, Iβll announce it properly and loudly, and Iβll be able to tell you all about it, exactly what it covers, what you will need, do and learn.
For now, letβs just say that if you wanted to see my FULL process in an unedited way, step by step, with all the details, guidance, and my comments all the way, then this is a class you donβt want to miss!
How to β¦ Packaging Illustration
Full class about how to create packaging illustrations!
The last class I took and highly recommended you was the course by Lisa Perrin. Sheβs an illustrator Iβve been observing, following, and admiring for a while now, so I was very excited to take her class and see her process.
Itβs a class about illustrating packaging taught in an accessible and comprehensive way. Lisa is a university professor, and sheβs a natural when it comes to showing students how to enjoy the whole creative process and come up with their ideas for a creative packaging illustration. The classes are super well and clearly structured, and Lisa explained how she develops a project from the start step by step.
This class also contains some very helpful videos that might help you with hand-lettering as itβs an important part of Lisaβs work. During the course, Lisa works with Photoshop, but you can also work with Procreate without any problems, if you prefer, or work with traditional tools. I enjoyed a lot watching her draw as Iβve been working on my projects, as itβs always nice to have a creative company, even a virtual oneπ I also found Lisaβs artistic journey very interesting. I think it can result inspiring to many artists, especially those of you who are starting.
Check out her Instagram profile if youβre not familiar with her work: @madebyperrin to see her unique pieces, stylized characters, and beautiful hand lettering.
