I need you🌳
Open Call: Looking for Artists! Today’s a special publication of The Creative Draft - get involved in a very special event!
Have you heard about Our Planet Week? It’s an annual event that started in 2020. The concept behind this illustration movement is to use what we do best to create environmental awareness. And hopefully, reach more and more people to drive the change. In the past three editions, over 26.000 illustrations were shared using the event hashtags on socials #ourplanetweek and #letsdrawthechange.Â
Each year I gather an awesome team of event hosts formed by artists and illustrators. I love having new artists on the team every year; that’s why I’m reaching out today, as maybe you will be our 2023 Our Planet Week co-host!Â
Hands up if you’d like to become Our Planet Week 2023 host! Complete the very short form and that’s it!
Do you want to know more?
Below you will find some of the most asked questions about the challenge. Take a look and have a good read before applying. I’m trying to share as much as possible.
What’s the difference between a Co-Host and a Participant?
Our Planet Week is organized every year by a small team of talented artists, selected every year to prepare the best inspiring set of the challenge’s prompts. We as hosts invite people to join the event and we make sure that the huge amount of illustrations created by the participants during the challenge dates doesn’t pass unnoticed and get burrowed in our IG feeds. We want the artists’ message and art to be seen and appreciated. Each year I gather a super-team of illustrators and every year I announce a few spots on the host-team, open to you, so that everyone’s given a chance to express their interest in becoming a co-host and being considered for the team!
Participants are all of the artists that decide to join the event following its guidelines. Anyone can participate, there’s no need to sign in anywhere or confirm your participation. Just by creating the art inspired by the prompts announced and posting it on the indicated dates under official hashtags counts as full participation.Â
How is Our Planet Week different from other events and social media challenges?
The goal of Our Planet Week is to share environmental awareness through our art. Art speaks louder than words, and you never know who you might impact. Each year artists share the work they create, inspired by the challenge prompts and the causes they’re most passionate about. Last but not least, every year so far, we’ve been partnering with the amazing One Tree Planted and together have been planting trees for every correctly posted by the participants’ artwork. That’s pretty cool, isn’t it?
When will the event start?Â
The 4th Our Planet Week edition will be held in April, with exact dates TBD.
Participants join the event on the official public challenge dates in April, whereas the hosts start preparing and chatting way beforehand to make sure everything is ready and thought of before:)Â
I’m based in X, can I join?
It’s a fully online event, so to become either a co-host or participate, you don’t need to be based in any specific location.
I'm not a professional artist/illustrator, can I join?
You don’t need to be a professional illustrator, but you do need to be passionate about art and nature. We’re looking for an artist/illustrator with a public IG art account, fairly active and sharing great original (not copied or generated) art!Â
I want to be a host, but I don’t have time.
In this case, consider participating in the event as a participant and join for as many prompts as possible!
I’m still not sure I understand how Our Planet Week works.
